There’s a special place…

In Dante’s Inferno for the individual that uses up all the limited Wi-Fi in the shared computer room in my residence for watching a TV show in Korean.

And then continues to laugh-out-loud (loud being the key word) at the funny parts.

Alas…patience with strangers…one of my New Year’s Resolutions…

Not being constantly connected to the Internet has been both liberating and very frustrating in these past few days.

Liberating in the sense that I’m not constantly checking my phone for updates, texts, or calls, and that I’m able to disconnect from technology and reconnect into the world, sounds, and environment around me.

That part has been sublime.

The frustrating part is the times in which I would really like to reach out to my family and friends, send a couple of emails, research hostel/train/plane prices, or even finish an online conversation to help calm my friend’s nerves as she waits in Logan airport about to fly to Italy to study abroad…I JUST CAN’T DO IT. (PS, you’re gonna be great. The Italians will love you. Ciao bella, let me know when you arrive).

I’m fortunate that I at least have decent Wi-Fi connection at my university, which is just a short walk down the street. But like every other establishment in France, the whole world stops spinning on Sundays. Don’t they realize that I’m a very productive and industrious American that likes to get things done on the weekend?

But hey, like they say, c’est la vie.  I just gotta roll with it.

Besides, it wouldn’t kill me to relax a little bit on “the Lord’s Day” anyway.

Speaking of Herculean tasks, I finally had enough time today to start the first day of my Insanity Workout DVD program.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, they are not kidding when they say this program is insanity.

But we all know I’m a little crazy, and I actually can already tell I’m really going to love it. I truly enjoy workouts in which your body is the only instrument you need to get a great work out. Yoga, running, soccer (yes, you need a ball, but you spend most of the time playing without the ball anyway), hiking, and now Insanity all really simplify exercise and it’s those sorts of exercises I find the most rewarding.

The first day starts off with a fitness test, and I’m chagrinned to admit that I didn’t exactly get the marks I was hoping for.
I was just…how you say? uhh, la tired this morning… and quite frankly I felt incredibly apathetic about breaking a sweat.

But I did it anyway. I mean, what else was I going to do? Go to all the stores that are open? Go on the Internet? Go grocery shopping? Buy train tickets?... Okay, maybe I’ll stop before I get irritated again….

Anyway, this program is all about improvement, baby, and that’s what I’m here to do.

I think it is super important to change up your exercise routine every month to two months, to keep your body on its toes. I was doing Bikram Yoga and Kickboxing at home while I was on break for a good month and a half, so I knew this would be a good time to start something new.

Although, I really do miss doing Bikram yoga every day.  My flexibility and strength were improving so much and I’ve never had such a clear head. (Although, I think it’s my yoga buddy that I miss most!!!) I miss it so much I even did a few poses today to help stretch/relax. I never thought I’d miss the 90 minutes I spent in the 105 degree F hot-room  everyday as much as I do…

But against all odds, I completed the first day, and I’m interested to see what the next workout brings. (Besides sweat, sore muscles, and maybe a couple of tears).

  1. Your yoga buddy misses you too! You continue to inspire me though! Whenever I think about not going to class I just think about how much you would like to go and drag my sorry butt to the hot room! I aspire to be as good a yogi as you are someday!!!!
